LESLIE LEVY AUGUST has 25+ years of experience in global trade facilitation with a specialty in temporary imports/exports and customs bonds and guarantees. She is a partner in boomerang carnets which is one of only two U.S ATA Carnet Service Providers appointed by the United States Council for International Business. Additionally, she is a Director of boomerang carnets UK which, with its partner, the Liverpool Chamber of Commerce, provides ATA Carnets to U.K. exporters. Ms. August is also responsible for overseeing the U.S. and Canadian Carnet de Passage program as boomerang carnets is the issuing organization for both countries. She is a blogger, authors the Exportise newsletter and serves on the Boards of several non-profit trade education organizations.
In her various roles Ms. August works with a wide variety of exporters and importers. The companies range from Fortune 100 companies to individual photographers. These U.S. and U.K. companies operating, exhibiting and selling overseas, use over 9000 ATA Carnets annually covering goods valued at $3B. As an educator and trainer, Leslie advises global trade compliance directors, logistics managers, import/export managers, tour managers, supply chain specialists, freight forwarders and customs brokers on use of the ATA Carnet and other temporary import documents. She provides ATA Carnet training for organizations involved in product promotion, demonstrations and international trade fairs and exhibitions, helping them avoid payment of duties and taxes.
Prior to boomerang carnets, Ms. August co-founded the first digital film and video editing company in New York City, Digipix. She was also a co-owner and Regional Vice President for national marine and transportation insurance broker Roanoke Trade.
Ms. August is a licensed insurance broker in 50 states, a member of the Northern California District Export Council, a Certified Global Business Professional and serves as President of WIT-NC (Women in International Trade – Northern California). She has a Master’s degree in Economics from DePaul University and had a hand in the very early development of the world-renowned Steppenwolf Theatre Company.
